Swatches of naturally dyed indigo and marigold bamboo fabric were dyed by Alyx Jacobs in partnership with my ethical apparel brand Slow Motion Goods. I'm a big believer of using all scraps, so it was fun to mesh my worlds together and felt very "right," considering this story took place inside my shop.
Back story:
Five years ago, a man in a full suit, dress shoes, top hat and briefcase walked into my ethical fashion shop unannounced. He said he had a gift for me. He handed me a small cloth parcel, and I unwrapped it to discover a crystal gold butterfly and a small poem (scroll for a photo.) After expressing confusion to the man, not understanding the meaning of the gift, he grew agitated or rather shocked that it wasn't connecting for me. "You don't understand what this is?" he said. "The only other person who knows about this is your doctor." Later that day, I got in my car to head home and a real life bright golden butterfly landed on my steering wheel, kissing my hand.
Five years later, after a miscarriage, the removal of my left ovary, the closure of that very shop, moving and much much more change in a span of just three months, I'd finally understand why the golden butterfly landed in my life.
